There were over 656 million Morgan Silver Dollars minted from 1878 – 1921. While all are worth more than their melt value today, the trick is to understand their mintage numbers and then collect those years when possible. Some notes from the charts below:
From 1905 – 1920 no Silver Morgans were minted so you are really looking at 1878 – 1904 and then the final year of 1921. The Carson City Mint only minted Silver Morgans in lower quantities prior to 1900 and didn’t cover all of the years.
Low numbers of proofs were minted in all years (some are estimates) even when the overall mintage that year was high. 1892 – 1895 shows some of the lowest mint numbers of all.
